TOTE Service is seeking a qualified individual to serve as Marine Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) Coordinator to support TOTE’s growing portfolio of VCM Projects. Currently, this position is under the National Security Multi-Mission Vessel (NSMV) VCM contract on behalf of the U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD) which are being constructed at Philly Shipyard. Main Duties and Responsibilities:

The primary duties of this position will include, but are not limited to: 

Safety Compliance: Ensure that all work is performed in a safe manner, following industry standards and internal safety protocols.

Quality Control/Assurance: Oversee shipyard QA/QC materials and processes to identify deficiencies and highlight key areas of improvement to promote adherence to the contract and published specifications/drawings. Identify and address issues related to workmanship, materials, and overall construction quality. Recommend solutions and coordinate with shipyard personnel to resolve quality concerns. This position will develop, plan and conduct internal audits to provide quality assurance and oversight of key VCM activities.  In addition to VCM internal audits, this position will also monitor the shipyard’s audit program to ensure quality oversite of the shipyard and its subcontractors.  

Documentation & Reporting: Lead the maintenance, tracking, and enhancement of accurate record-keeping related to inspections, key performance indicators (KPIs), non-conformance issues and corrective actions. Provide organizational and administrative support to the VCM Team in achieving program goals, which includes reviewing, improving, and potentially developing internal processes to support VCM activities and other administrative functions. 

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:  

The Marine QA/QC Coordinator, under the supervision of the Communications Supervisor, will also play a key role in supporting the installation and integration of Owner Furnished Equipment (OFE) on the vessels by coordinating with the shipyard, subcontractors and vendors.  

This role will be expected to support periodic inspections of ship construction activities, verifying that work adheres to the published standards and specifications.  

This role will assume some of the administrative responsibilities of the Communications Supervisor in their absence, such as meetings and event coordination including the documentation of meeting minutes.  

The Marine QA/QC Coordinator may also be assigned additional responsibilities related to the NSMV Program or other vessel construction management programs within the TOTE organization as needed.

Skills: 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working on shipbuilding and/or ship repair projects preferred.
  • Experience reading and interpreting blueprints/drawings. 
  • Experience with marine quality inspections, auditing and testing preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently requiring limited supervision and exercise proper judgment. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • ISO 9001 Auditor Certification preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite Programs.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to multitask and occasionally work within critical time constraints.
  • Must be able to work in a shipyard environment, which may involve climbing ladders/gangways, working in confined spaces, and exposure to varying weather conditions. 

Education: 

High School diploma or GED required, with Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in quality management, marine engineering, naval architecture or another related field preferred.
