Description
The Staff Accountant collaborates with various departments to provide financial insights, participates in the implementation and improvement of accounting systems, and documents internal controls and standard operating procedures. This role involves performing variance analysis, managing and forecasting cash flow, assisting in audit preparations, and assisting with financial planning and analysis. The ideal candidate will identify opportunities for process improvements, participate in professional development opportunities, and ensure compliance with all accounting and finance policies and procedures. Essential Duties
· Compile and analyze financial information to prepare journal entries and general ledger postings.
· Maintain and ensure adherence to accounting controls by following established policies and procedures.
· Reconcile and maintain balance sheet accounts.
· Reconcile bank accounts and perform daily banking activities.
· Collect data and prepare federal, state, and local tax returns.
· Provide financial status information by preparing special reports and completing special projects as needed.
· Analyze financial information to ensure general ledger accuracy.
· Review and approve financial transactions within specific limits.
· Support the month-end close process.
· Assist with managing fixed assets, including maintaining proper documentation and title catalog.
· Provide support to the Senior Accountants, Controller, and assist with accounts payable as needed.
· Perform vendor verification and assist with maintaining vendor controls.
· Assist in the preparation and review of departmental budgets and expense reports.
· Collaborate with other departments to provide financial insights and support for various projects and initiatives.
· Participate in the implementation and improvement of accounting systems and processes.
· Document and update internal controls and standard operating procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
· Perform variance analysis to identify and explain discrepancies between actual and budgeted figures.
· Assist in managing and forecasting cash flow to ensure adequate liquidity for operations.
· Assist in preparing for internal and external audits, including gathering required documentation and information.
· Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies within the accounting function.
· Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with industry trends and best practices.
· Generate adhoc financial reports as requested by management to support decision-making.
· Ensure compliance with all Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental policies and procedures.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education, Experience, and Certifications
· Associate’s degree required.
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred.
· CPA, CMA or similar accreditation desired.
· 1 to 3 years of accounting or other relevant experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Proficient in standard software applications, including Windows and MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio, MS Projects).
· Highly organized and self-directed individual.
· Exceptional analytical and organizational capabilities.
· A willingness to travel approximately 10% of the time.
· Excellent written, verbal, and listening communication skills.
Working Environment

This role is designated as hybrid, requiring in-office attendance on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Based primarily in a professional office setting equipped with standard equipment, this role will also engage with operations in areas such as warehouses, yards, and shops. This interaction with field personnel across varied environments enhances financial oversight and offers a dynamic and engaging workplace.
The full salary range for this position, Staff Accountant, is $57,729 to $89,481 but Carlile Transportation does not typically hire at or near the top of the salary range. The typical hiring range for this role is $57,729 to $73,605. The actual offer takes into account multiple factors including but not limited to education; experience; internal equity, and other organizational needs.
