TOTE Maritime Alaska, the leader in safe and reliable service to Alaska, is seeking a Terminal Operations Manager to join the team in our Anchorage, AK office.
In this position you will:
be responsible for the successful management of Anchorage terminal operations, including vessel loading/discharging, maintenance/repair of TOTE equipment in Alaska. Assists in expense and capital budget preparation, management and reporting. This position will also assist the Alaska Senior Operations Manager in leading, and optimizing day-to-day operations, fostering relationships internally and externally by providing tactical leadership for the team.
This position’s normal work schedule is Monday through Friday but may adjust depending on operational requirements.
Main Duties and Responsibilities Include:
- Directly supervises supervisory and non-supervisory employees (Terminal Operations Supervisor, Gate and Vehicle Departments). Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Oversight of all terminal operations including safety / security, vessel / yard operations and maintenance.
- Interface and build relationships with key partners and vendors.
- Create and review KPI reports weekly.
- Manage compliance with longshore, maintenance, and terminal contracts.
- Act as ship’s agent for Anchorage, including communication with various authorities.
- Monitor Coast guard regulatory and compliance issues.
- Plan and facilitate all Anchorage terminal and building maintenance.
- Anchorage lead for cargo damage reduction.
- Manage equipment fleet repair in Alaska.
- Manage maintenance and repair issues with contract vendors.
- Assist in preparation of annual department budgets and monitoring terminal capital / operating expenses to stay within established budget.
- Responsible for ensuring the Anchorage terminal operations meets requirements and continually improves the Integrated Management System (ISM) covering Quality (ISO 9001:2015), Environmental (ISO 14001:2015), and Safety (OHSAS 18001:2007).
- Cross-train and perform key departmental duties in the Alaska Senior Operations Manager’s absence.
- Implement and maintain quality controls to ensure the department is operating effectively and efficiently
- Communicate with other departments to meet internal and external customer needs
- Extract and analyze data from corporate software including not limited to – Adaptive, FSM, EAM, Mainsail and CargoWise
The ideal candidate will have:
- Bachelor’s degree (Required)
- Minimum of five years related experience (including marine cargo operations, shop operations and labor management), with five of those years in a management role.
- In-depth knowledge of marine cargo operations.
- Knowledge of equipment maintenance management and parts inventory.
- Knowledge of and effective skills in labor relations and negotiation techniques.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Good math skills.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Great organizational skills.
- Must be a team player.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
- Computer literate, with the ability to utilize standard software applications and be proficient in Windows and MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel).
