Job Summary

This position is responsible for the safe and efficient transfer of petroleum products between barges, ships, and facilities including the completion of barge logs, bills of lading, and gauge reports.

 

What you’ll be responsible for

  • Performs duties in accordance with the policies and procedures outlined in the Marine Operations Manual Safety Management System and the Tankerman’s Handbook.
  • Monitors product level in tanks.
  • Operates diesel engines, cargo pumps, tank/pipelines valves, and manual and hydraulic booms. Adjusts and secures barge lines, and splices 8 and 12-strand lines.
  • Completes loading and discharge gauge reports.
  • Responsible for repair and maintenance to maintain vessel operations.
  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory guidelines including but not limited to, an inspection of vessels for Coast Guard, state, and company regulatory compliance. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED, and 3 years’ experience, preferably in the petroleum/oil transportation industry, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Certificates, Licenses & Registrations:
    • TWIC, Hazmat and Hazwoper can be acquired after hire.
    • Merchant Marine D Document with Tankerman (PIC/Barge DL endorsement preferred)
    • Medical Certification
  • Other Skills and Abilities:
    • Must meet Coast Guard regulations in regard to correctable hearing and vision.
    • Work schedule is generally 30 days on 30 days off, 12-hour shifts 180 day rotation. Rest periods are often interrupted due to noise and vessel movements.
