JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY:
The primary duty of the cadet/intern is to train and observe towing and other marine operations in a work study environment with a focus on leadership and management from the shoreside perspective.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Cadets/Interns will observe the day to day shoreside management relating to the regions tug, towing, and barge operations. Including crewing, governmental and state regulatory safety compliance standards, budget development & management, casualty investigations, vessel repair, coordination of vessel schedules and operations, and developing
and executing operating standards designed to ensure regulatory compliance of personnel and vessels consistent with company policies. Must be familiar with and observe proper safety practices, procedures and routines.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Must possess strong written and oral communicative skills
- Should have good interpersonal skills to work well with customers,
peers, superiors, subordinates, competitors and the general public. - Must be flexible and receptive to change. Must have ability to deviate
from established routines on short notice and be able to recognize the level of
importance of new assignments. - Have basic knowledge and be able to practice/exhibit good seamanship
- Basic knowledge of nautical terminology
- Must be compliant with Company policies, including drug and alcohol, safety, etc.
- The job is generally performed in an office but when in the
field, it is subject to all weather conditions, including exposure to high noise levels and
exposure to heat and cold.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Possess a current Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC). Must be currently an active student with a maritime institution or academy.
Compensation
The pay for this position will be between $18.69/hr. – $20.00/hr.
