Job Summary:

This position reports to the Fleet Manager.  The Lead Driver supports the fleet manager in leading a group of drivers and achieves specific customer service and key company goals.  Trucks will typically be loaded between late evening to early morning. This job is a 5 day per week job; however trucking operations will be conducted 7-days per week. Occasional work on the weekend may be required.

Pay Range: 

$20 – $28 / HR DOE

Hourly wage depends on license classification

This position qualifies for the loyalty incentive program – $2/hr for every hour worked paid quarterly with good performance

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Keeping track of speed limits and traffic laws to ensure safe driving practices
  • Training new drivers on company policies, procedures, and safety protocols
  • Reporting any accidents or incidents to supervisors immediately
  • Reporting any mechanical problems with vehicles to maintenance staff for repair
  • Communicating with dispatch regarding pick-ups and drop-offs, delays, emergencies, and other relevant information
  • Maintaining a clean, well-maintained truck that meets company standards for appearance
  • Ensuring that cargo is loaded and unloaded properly, safely, and efficiently
  • Ensuring that they are familiar with all routes and schedules
  • Following all federal and state regulations regarding cargo transportation
  • Update USPS customers on all situation that will affect service 
  • Being punctual for work assignments
  • Demonstrate internal and external customer service

Qualifications:

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with DOT Medical Card
  • Commercial driving experience is required
  • CDL Class C is preferred 
  • Must have a customer service oriented, friendly, helpful, and professional disposition
  • Must have the ability to work in a fast paced and always changing environment
  • Must have the ability to manage people effectively
  • Excellent organization, communication (both written and verbal), and interpersonal skills required. 
  • Must be able to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Self-motivated, able to multi-task and work effectively under a minimum level of supervision in a fast-paced environment, strong problem-solving skills.
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Word and Excel) required for email and customer reports
  • Must be able to demonstrate a consistent capability of working cooperatively with others in a team environment

Physical Requirements:

Frequent sitting for prolonged periods of time, stepping in and out of tractor cabs, hand-eye coordination, and good vision. Occasionally exposed to bright or dim lighting conditions, whole-body vibration when driving the truck.
