Northern Air Cargo: (NAC) is a scheduled cargo airline based in Anchorage, Alaska. As the largest all-cargo airline in Alaska, NAC operates a fleet of 17 Boeing 737-300s, -400s and -800s, and Boeing 767-300 freighter aircraft throughout our network, including Alaska, Hawaii, Continental U.S., the Caribbean and Central & South America. POSITION SUMMARY
The Flight Follower performs job functions by application of 14CFR §91, §119 and §121, the company and departmental policies to expedite and ensure safety of flight.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Directly responsible for Operational Control of company aircraft according to FAR’s and Company procedures via chain of command through Director of Flight Operations.
- Plan each flight departure with the primary emphasis on safety, compliance, and schedule continuity.
- Analyzes and evaluates information regarding weather and airport conditions to anticipate changes that may affect aircraft operations.
- Computes fuel requirements according to type of aircraft, distance, weather conditions, destination alternates(s) and FARs.
- Prepares flight plans and signs flight releases containing such information as maximum allowable takeoff and landing weights, weather reports, field conditions, METARs, TAFs, NOTAMs, PIREPs, and other information required for the safe completion of the flight.
- Assist the pilot in command of an aircraft with an emergency by providing any assistance necessary to ensure safe completion of the flight.
- Monitor the progress of each flight under Operational Control to ensure release compliance and update flight crew of significant changes to weather or flight plan and recommends alternative means in the interest of safety as needed.
- Authorized to delay or divert a flight if unsafe conditions pose a threat to the safety of the crew members, aircraft, cargo, or flight.
- Must be able to maintain competency, by passing all competency checks oral and written. Including recurrency training and general company training.
- Must be able to work a schedule accommodating a 24/7 operation with minimal supervision.

Education
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- Must have a current or obtain a U.S. FAA Aircraft Dispatcher Certificate issued by the Department of Transportation within 18 months of hire date.
Experience
- Two year’s aircraft dispatch experience preferred.
- ETOPS experience preferred.
- International aircraft dispatching experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Must have ability to maintain competency.
- Must be able to pass all ground school written exam with 80% or Higher.
- Must be able to prioritize and be proactive in a fast-paced changing environment
- Need strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact productively with varied stakeholders.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete and abstract variables.
- Must be proficient in a computer-based environment including Windows and web browsers.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test, criminal background check, and TSA security threat assessment.
LANGUAGE AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS
- This role has a high-level of communication with flight crews, other members of the Systems Operations Control Center (SOCC) and other stakeholders.
- Ability to read and interpret a variety of technical information furnished in written, oral, mathematical and diagram form. This may include government regulations, company policies, etc.
- Draft routine business correspondence and reports.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- The work is classified as “light” with regards to the physical demands.
- Lifting requirements: Heavy boxes weighing 25 pounds, light office supplies, stacks of paper and computer printouts. Carts may be pushed loaded with office supplies and/or computer printouts that may weigh 10 to 15 pounds. Pulling will be required such as paper trays in copy machines, and file drawers.
- Reaching to the top of file cabinets or shelves is required; materials handled will consist of general office supplies and copy machine toner and ink. Fingering is required for pages in books, computer print outs, documents to be filed, keyboards on computers, typewriters, calculators, copy machines, fax machines and telephones.
- Talking is required at least 50% of the day; use of talking on the phone at least 25% of the day. Reciprocal communication is required at least 75% of the day. Good vision is required to process reports, data input, read correspondence and proof-read documents and letters being sent out. Good hearing is required to communicate on the phone and while attending meetings.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Work is performed in an office environment with normal range of indoor temperatures and adequate ventilation and lighting. Free from excessive noise other than that of a copy machine and telephone. Fumes and odor are void from the usual.
PHYSICAL EFFORT
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, see, and hear.
- The employee is frequently required to use hand and fingers for computer input.
