About the Company:   

Northern Air Maintenance Services (NAMS) is an FAA certified 14 CFR Part 145 Repair Station headquartered in Anchorage, Alaska. We are the sole maintenance provider for ConocoPhillips’ fleet of three DHC-8-400 (Q400) aircraft. In addition to maintenance services, NAMS handles ground operations, inventory control, and passenger screening for all flights between Anchorage, Kuparuk and Alpine. With over 70 dedicated employees, we also provide contract maintenance for two DHC-6-300/400 Twin Otters and one CASA 212-300 aircraft based in Alpine, AK.

Salary:

  • This role offers a starting wage of $30.00 per hour and pay will increase with experience through applicable premiums.

Summary:

The GSE/Automotive Technician will be responsible for inspecting, maintaining and repairing aviation GSE, and fleet vehicles used to support aviation operations. You will play a crucial role in ensuring that all equipment functions optimally to support safe and efficient company operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, servicing and repairs of GSE equipment and vehicles including line trucks and vans, AC and DC generator sets, portable heaters, push back tugs, baggage tugs, belt loaders, compressors, forklifts, maintenance/stair stands, and other miscellaneous equipment used in the support of aircraft.
  • Diagnosing, Troubleshooting and repair of electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems using schematics, wiring diagrams, test equipment and proper hand tools as necessary.
  • Gasoline and diesel engine diagnosis and repair as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance performed and parts used for compliance purposes.
  • Operate a wide variety of equipment including snow removal equipment, man lifts and forklifts.
  • Experience with diesel and gas heaters, Global deicer trucks, forklifts, cargo loaders, auto body repair and stick or MIG welding experience a plus.
  • Be able to interpret schematics and troubleshooting charts.
  • Strict adherence to all environmental safety and regulatory commissions, including (but not limited to) Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
  • Ensure proper safety while operating equipment on-site. Implementing and enforcing quality control and safety measures during repair and maintenance activities.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualification Requirements:

Education/Training:

  • High School Diploma or General education degree (GED).
  • Proven experience as a technician or mechanic, preferably in ground support equipment, vehicle maintenance, or related fields.
  • Technical training or certification in automotive trade or technical school may be substituted for a hands-on experience.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and clear driving record.
  • Welding and Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications are helpful but not required.

Computer Skills:

  • Must have a working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office applications.

Travel:

  • The employee may be required to travel on company business to support the NAMS station network and there may be minimal notification before travel.

Language and Communication Skills:

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • The ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact well with coworkers and customers.
  • Draft routine correspondence and document all scheduled and unscheduled maintenance actions utilizing computer-based Maintenance Information Systems.

  • Lifting/carrying requirements: Up to 70 pounds occasionally. Repetitions will vary with projects.

  • Reaching: Full range of motion may be required to perform the essential functions of this position. To perform the full range of maintenance and repair activities on building projects. Utilization of hand tools overhead and in other awkward positions as needed.
  • Repetitive motions: The job requires repetitive motion depending on task.
  • Talking: Talking is required throughout the day, communication with customers and co-workers will be required.
  • Hearing: Good hearing is required for effective and safe communication with co-workers.
  • Vision: Good vision is required to perform all tasks.

Environmental:

Work is performed in a shop, maintenance hangar or outdoor ramp setting. The employee is frequently required to work outside in all temperatures, including heat and cold for extended lengths of time. Exposure to hazardous materials, mechanical, electrical and heat. Exposure to exhaust fumes, as well as welding and grinding fumes.
