Job Summary:
This position is responsible for contributing to the growth, return expectation, and overall objectives of the company and its subsidiaries by actively managing the financial planning and analysis activities. The position will interact regularly with Senior Leadership and will construct financial models for major projects that drive the future direction of the business. Prospective candidates for the position must possess very strong financial and analytical skills along with an entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to collaborate well with others.
Essential Functions:
- Serve as subject matter expert on insurance placements, coverage, exclusions, limits, deductibles, terms, and conditions.
- Develop and implement a risk management framework aligned with industry best practices.
- Conduct risk assessments and identify potential risks, and vulnerabilities.
- Develop, implement, and manage risk mitigation strategies, controls, and policies.
- Establish and update reserves, in coordination with TPAs and expert opinions as available
- Analyze recoverability and work with underwriters and average adjusters, as applicable, to obtain proper insurance recoveries.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to establish and maintain an effective risk management program.
- Lead insurance program administration and annual insurance renewals.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on insurance placements, coverage, exclusions, limits, deductibles, terms, and conditions.
- Oversee regulatory insurance audits, including worker’s compensation.
- Manage, direct, and monitor insurance activities, including procurement, underwriting and administration.
- Apply knowledge of insurer underwriting practices to accurately represent company exposures.
- Serve as the company’s liaison to Saltchuk Risk, brokers, insurance carriers and third-party administrators.
- Manage the process and procedures of property and vehicle claims handling, including internal and external claims handling, and provide guidance to business partners and advocacy regarding the adjustment of claims, as well as monitoring the investigation, evaluation, and settlements.
- Work with general counsel and insurers to settle litigated matters.
- Lead integration of acquired companies into risk management programs.
- Develop and maintain documentation related to risk management activities, including policies, procedures, and reports.
- Conduct contract review specific to insurance requirements and manage contractual compliance with insurance requirements.
- Collaborate with NorthStar Energy and operating companies on insurance budget and premium allocations.
- Govern parameters set forth by Saltchuk Risk for Self-Insured Retention Program.
- Administer Certificates of Financial Responsibility for owned vessels, terminals, storage tanks, and mobile transfer units.
- Lead bond placements and renewals.
- Manage the Certificate of Insurance (COI) process including both the issuance of COIs to customers as well as the review of COIs from vendors
- All other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Risk Management, or a related field. Advanced degree or relevant certifications (e.g., ARM, CPCU) are a plus.
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in risk management and insurance/claims administration, or a related field, preferably in the energy or utilities industry
- Proven experience in developing and implementing risk management program.
- Experience conducting risk assessments and developing risk mitigation strategies.
- Understanding of enterprise risk management frameworks and methodologies.
- Travel Periodically as needed
