TOTE Maritime Alaska, the leader in safe and reliable service to Alaska, is seeking a Terminal Operations Supervisor to join the team at our Anchorage, AK office.
In this position you will:
be responsible for supervising the Alaska Operations Specialists, Maintenance Department and vessel operations, as well as providing backup management support to other departments in the group.
This position’s normal work schedule is Sunday through Wednesday but may adjust depending on operational requirements.
Main Duties and Responsibilities Include:
- Daily supervision of the position’s direct reports (Operations Specialists and Maintenance Administrative Assistant) as well as daily collaboration with the Maintenance Department and key partners.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws while supervising direct or non-direct reports. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints, and resolving problems
- Direct employee performance and productivity according to guidelines and expectations outlined within current collective bargaining agreement
- Oversight of all terminal operations including safety / security, vessel /yard operations and maintenance.
- Coordinate weekly scheduling of Operations Specialist team
- Communicate with other departments to meet internal and external customer needs
- Cross-departmental training in Operations and Customer Service to support leadership group as needed
- Implement and maintain quality controls to ensure the department is operating effectively and efficiently
- Promote efficient communication between the maintenance department and customer service to ensure a positive customer experience
- Extract and analyze data from corporate software including not limited to – Adaptive, FSM, EAM, Mainsail and CargoWise
- Monitor operational costs to inform business decisions and financial commentary
- Coordinate the purchase of terminal equipment within TOTE purchasing guidelines
- Plan and execute property maintenance projects in collaboration with the maintenance department or outside vendors
- Collaborate with the TOTE Environmental and Safety team to ensure training and compliance requirements are met
- Collaborate with various outside partners to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards
- Ensure safety and environmental compliance by conducting various audits and inspections on terminal
- Effectively perform additional duties and lead special projects as assigned.
The ideal candidate will have:
Qualifications (Education, Experience and Certifications):
- Associate degree required (in transportation or related field)
- Five years of transportation or logistics experience, with two of those years in a supervisory role
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of trucking industry and logistics
- Excellent customer service skills
- Basic math skills
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Good organizational skills
- Must be a team player
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize
- Ability to work under pressure with a high level of accuracy
- Computer literate, with the ability to utilize software applications and be proficient in Windows and MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
