Job Summary
The Transportation Manager for Inland Transportation of Ocean Carriage equipment oversees and optimizes all aspects of Tropical’s transportation operations by managing relationships, controlling costs, maintaining high level of service and planning routes efficiently. This position will be responsible for both operational and personnel aspects of transportation.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Ensures the company adheres to all local, state, and federal transportation regulations. This may include budget allocations for inspections, permits, fines, and compliance-related audits
Manages Independent Contractor fleet, supervisors, company drivers, dispatchers, and office personnel.
Oversees all aspects of third-party transportation provider’s negotiation of rates and yard storage.
Oversee the cost of maintaining the transportation fleet, including routine maintenance and repairs after breakdowns or accidents with safety as top priority.
Allocates the budget for purchasing or leasing new vehicles, and trucks.
Leads professional development of transportation personnel, including driver safety training, certifications, and management development programs.
Recruits personnel, drivers and overseeing their training to ensure consistency across the employee base.
Collaborates with other departments to ensure transportation needs are met, including coordinating with warehouse teams to ensure timely delivery of goods
Minimum Education, Certification, Experience and Physical Requirements
Education and experience minimums can be substituted with any equivalent combination of training and experience
Education
High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience
7 years intermodal, trucking or transportation experience.
License
Local Driver’s License
Travel
Less than 5% to various Tropical Locations
Physical
Office Environment – Manual dexterity to perform repetitive motion tasks on computer. Ability to bend or stoop to retrieve lower shelf files. Ability to reach overhead to retrieve upper shelf files. ability to sit 1/3 – 2/3 of day. Ability to travel in various modes of transportation (e.g. automobile, airplane, train etc..) Occasionally exposed to outside elements during the course of traveling.
