Alaska Petroleum Distributing (APD) has been serving the North Pole and surrounding areas since 1981. With strong local brand recognition and family-owned company culture, APD has a balanced commercial and retail customer portfolio, delivering heating oil, gasoline, and diesel fuels. It is the largest fuel distributor in the interior. Recognizing its complementary services, including linehaul and truck maintenance capabilities, APD joined the NorthStar family of companies in 2019.

APD prioritizes environmental safety, crafting and constructing the first state-approved, double-walled fuel storage tanks. Alaska Petroleum has over 100 tanks of various sizes, which is an offered service to contractors throughout the state. In addition, APD handles oil spill contingency products, including pads and barrels. 

Job Purpose:

Performs basic repairs on tractors and trailers. Assists the Shop Foreman with repairs and troubleshooting. Lubricate, clean, and perform other small services to light, medium, and heavy equipment and stationary equipment in order to improve performance and limit downtime.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • MUST FOLLOW ALL SAFETY REGULATIONS AND STANDARDS
  • Describe the differences in the PM schedules and identify all Liberty equipment by name
  • Explain what fluid type is to be used in engines, transmissions, power ends, drive boxes, and small engines, and the fluid capacity of each type
  • Identifies all greasing points that are included in the PM Service for both trailer-mounted units and tractors
  • Knowledgable in checking u-joints and identifying if they need to be replaced
  • Has basic equipment knowledge including where battery disconnect switches are, the correct way to power up and power down equipment, and understands the starting procedures of equipment
  • Understands the accurate way to engage power take-off on a tractor
  • Base knowledge of key points on hydraulic systems and where major failures can occur if accurate steps are not followed
  • Understands how to check fluid levels after a PM service and identify which components are checked while running, and which ones are checked in a no-run state
  • Shows understanding of unit-mounted tools and how they are used in the process of doing a PM service. (i.e. fuel priming pump)
  • Understanding of manual gauges, their purpose, and accurate readings per each equipment type and full understanding of completing all required paperwork
  • General knowledge of electrical: use of a multimeter to check voltage and resistance

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • 3 years minimum related proven experience.
  • Basic understanding of engines, transmissions, and their theories and can perform PM services with little to no instruction.
  • Must possess a basic tool set.
  • Possesses general knowledge of electrical circuits.
