Saltchuk Marine is seeking a Senior Accountant to play a key role in the company’s core accounting operations, supporting accurate financial reporting, disciplined month-end and year-end close processes, and strong internal controls. This position requires hands-on ownership of journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial analysis to ensure the integrity of the company’s financial statements.

The Senior Accountant will partner closely with Accounting, Finance, and Operations to ensure accounting activities are performed in accordance with GAAP and company policies while continuously improving efficiency, clarity, and consistency across accounting processes. This role requires a proactive, detail-oriented professional who brings strong accounting fundamentals, sound judgment, and a commitment to quality into daily operations.

In addition to core accounting responsibilities, this role will have opportunities to contribute accounting expertise to broader system and process enhancements, including participation in enterprise system improvements and post‑implementation optimization. Through this work, the Senior Accountant will help ensure accounting processes remain accurate, well-controlled, and scalable, while supporting the long-term strength and evolution of the accounting organization at Saltchuk Marine.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Financial Accounting and Analysis: Support month-end and year-end close activities including preparation and review of journal entries and account reconciliations, investigating variances, explaining trends, and providing insights to key stakeholders to support informed decision-making.
  • Controls, Compliance & Collaboration: Support internal controls, audits, compliance with GAAP and company policies, & partner with cross-functional teams to ensure appropriate control environments.
  • General Accounting: Support various financial cycles including CapEx, fixed assets, inventory, cash management, taxes, revenue recognition, and accruals.
  • ERP Implementation & System Transformation: Support the transition to NetSuite, including user acceptance testing, data validation, and post go-live optimization.
  • Continuous Improvement: Evaluate current accounting processes, identify opportunities for improvement and standardization, and help define future state accounting flows & procedures

Preferred Specialized Skills:

  • Accounting Knowledge: Strong understanding of GAAP and core accounting principles including fixed asset management.
  • Adaptability: Experience working through change, ambiguity, or system/process transformations.
  • Self-Starter: Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and drive work forward without heavy direction.
  • Analytical Mindset: Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Communication: Ability to challenge ideas constructively, influence outcomes, and collaborate effectively across departments.

Preferred Education:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Experience: Minimum 5+ years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
  • Industry: Industrial or capital-intensive industry experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA or CPA-eligible.
  • Prior experience working in NetSuite
  • Prior experience with ERP implementations or major system upgrades.
  • Experience documenting and redesigning accounting processes.
  • Advanced Excel skills and comfort working with large data sets.

Working Conditions: Work is mostly performed in a normal office environment. May be required to work more than a normal workweek, including weekends. Travel may also be required.  Regular and predictable attendance is a requirement.

Compensation: Pay for this position will be between $92,186 and 138,279 annually based on experience.
