Human Resources Generalist

JOB SUMMARY Responsible for assisting all business units in achieving corporate objectives.   Provides pro-active and daily solutions, expert counsel and accurate and timely HR information to clients, employees and the management of Tropical Shipping.  Provides counsel to management on application of policy, and resolves employee relations issues.   Serves as resource in providing advice to employees on personnel related issues.   As a strategic consultative business partner, is responsible for helping attract, develop and retain employees through planning, development of HR programs and activities. Administers applicant testing, and maintains applicant tracking system.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESProvide support to managers and employees on employee relations matters as needed in regards to legal compliance.  Conducts investigations and evaluates employee relations issues, providing guidance to management in support of company policies.   Provide guidance and assistance to managers with the development and implementation of disciplinary actions and performance improvement plans.  Oversee progressive disciplinary processes including the coordination of involuntary employee separation.  Prepares and conducts exit interviews on all separating employees.  As a strategic business partner, assist managers and supervisors with evaluating business and recruitment needs.    Evaluate and establish recruiting methods and identify recruitment options that meet business objectives.Review and approve all employment actions, including promotions and disciplinary actions and ensures such actions comply with Company policy, under the direction of the Human Resources Director.Evaluates all employment applications, and conducts employment interviews for possible placement within the organization; including the recruiting of external candidates through media advertisement, school recruiting, and employment agencies.  Maintains communication with job applicants and employment agencies by coordinating application, recruitment brochures, job offers, and employment denial.  Develop and administers all preemployment testing including skills testing, drug testing, background checks and reference checks.Reviews all In-House applications, and works with Hiring Manager to ensure proper placement of internal candidates.Prepares, analyzes and distributes internal recruitment reports and administers automated applicant tracking system on the Human Resources Management System.Administers the leave of absence process, ensuring compliance with federal regulations in regards to Family Medical Leave of Absence (FMLA).  Ensures that documentation of the approval is communicated to all necessary departments.  Maintains tracking system of all documentation and time for FMLA leaves.Represents the Organization with outside agencies and recruitment events.Coordinates the relocation process to include scheduling the movement of household goods, payment of relocation allowances and reimbursement of temporary living expenses.Responds to verification of employment requests and claims for unemployment.Assist managers and employees with general questions relating to benefits and compensation.    Coordinate the involvement of the Compensation & Benefits Department on detailed matters relating to benefits administration and compensation development.Ensures Human Resources operations, Policies & Procedures and employee records are in compliance  with Sarbanes Oxley, Federal and State laws.   Responsible for the management and reporting for EEOC and Affirmative Action Plan.Supports corporate business initiatives and the corporate shared values in the daily delivery of Human Resources Services.Coordinates employee activities through Employee Activities Committee.Performs all other duties as assigned.EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or in a related fieldEXPERIENCE: Three years of Human Resources experience, including one year in recruiting or employee relations.LICENSE: Valid Local Driver’s License.TRAVEL: 5% travel to other Tropical locations.PHYSICAL: Office Environment – Manual dexterity to perform repetitive motion tasks on computer.  Ability to bend or stoop to retrieve lower shelf files.  Ability to reach overhead to retrieve upper shelf files.  ability to sit 1/3 – 2/3 of day.  Ability to travel in various modes of transportation (e.g. automobile, airplane, train etc.)  Occasionally exposed to outside elements during the course of traveling.LANGUAGE: English
