Cargo Handling Specialist

JOB SUMMARY Inspects and receives cargo to protect the interest of Tropical and its customers.  Verifies that cargo meets Tropical’s minimum requirements for cargo acceptance.  Notifies supervisor / crew leader for problem resolution when cargo does not meet Tropical requirements.  Measures and documents the shipment’s size, type and characteristics along with complete written record of any discrepancies.  Applies proper Tropical labels according to cargo marks and paperwork and enters correct data in the warehouse management system, preparing cargo for putaway.  Operates a forklift as part of the receiving, stripping, or putaway processes.  Puts away cargo in the proper location and documents that transaction properly in the warehouse management system.JOB SCOPENo supervisory or budgetary responsibilitiesPRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESInspects cargo to ensure that cargo meets the Tropical receiving guidelines for acceptance.Receives cargo by :a.  Verifying and documenting the count.b.  Ensuring that cargo matches description on the carrier’s freight billc.  Verifying and documenting cargo condition.d.  Properly noting exceptions (discrepancies) on the delivery agent’s paperwork.e.  Checks for proper hazardous material documents.f.   Signs the delivery receipt, and accepts cargo in accordance with the receiving process.Measures cargo and enters information into the warehouse management system or on hand tally.Properly, accurately, and legibly, records all other required information on tally or in warehouse management system.Prepares cargo for putaway by verifying paperwork, and placing cargo on pallets.  Secures cargo to pallets with shrinkwrap and/or tape.Applies labels to each handling unit, in accordance with company procedures.Exhibits good customer service skills in communicating with customers, truckers, and vendors.Performs and documents pre-shift forklift inspection.Operates a forklift to unload delivery trucks and containers.Strips and transloads cargo as neededTransfers large shipments from delivery truck directly into  containers.Loads containers making sure that cargo is placed properly in containers to ensure maximum stow and damage free transit.Loads flat racks according to flat rack procedures.Ensures proper hazardous material placards are applied when hazardous cargo is loaded.Performs all other assigned duties as requested. Operations Reliability Coordinator

JOB SUMMARYCoordinates activities of operations employees assigned to the warehouse and guides them in training, hazmat response and processes used in the warehouse. Handles freight and duties assigned by the supervisor to improve the customer experience to ensure accuracy and efficiency. Coordinates cargo and works with the inventory specialist to identify “not founds” and inventory measures to promote improvement.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Educates and works with personnel to drive loading accuracy.- Idetifies training deficiencies to create better training processes.- Organizes and coordinates the receiving, warehousing, and loading of cargo according to established guidelines with team.- Coordinates and leads the hazmat spill response process providing guidance and ensuring the team safely responds to spills within compliance and guidelines set by Tropical and Governing agencies.- Provides incident report to senior management following a hazmat spill.- Maintains hazmat spill inventory – Ensures loading team follows best practices while performing job and gives guidance/ training when necessary- Ensures that all warehouse processes and governing agency procedures are followed.- Reports non-compliance to supervisor immediately.- Makes cargo available US customs and USDA inspection.- Coordinates cargo transfers.- Coordinates cargo with special instructions to ensure that it remains undamaged and is stored according to instructions.- Works with superviso to raise awareness of cargo with special requirements.- Ensures the warehouse and assigned equipment is kept clean and properly maintained,- Schedules forklift PMs and equipment maintenance along with pre shift inspections. – Coordinates loading and/or transfer of freight to/from Tropical locations. – Actively supports Quality Improvement Process- Performs all other related duties as requested.MINIMUM EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSEDUCATION:    High School Diploma or equivalentEXPERIENCE:    7 years experience working in shipping or logisticsLICENSE:    Valid Driver’s LicenseTRAVEL:    PHYSICAL:    Operations – Manual dexterity to perform repetitive motion tasks on computer or handheld.  Ability to frequently twist, bend, reach, squat, kneel, climb on equipment, push/pull 50 pounds, crawl, lift and carry at least 80 pounds on a daily basis.  Able to withstand constant exposure to extreme weather conditionsLANGUAGE:    English         (Education and experience minimums can be substituted with any equivalent combination of training and experience)
