Port Mechanic IV

JOB SUMMARY    Performs preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs on support and heavy freight moving equipment systems: mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical. JOB SCOPENo supervisory or budgetary responsibilities. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES-Performs preventative maintenance on all heavy equipment including but not limited to: mobile harbor cranes, straddle carriers, reach stackers, rotators and spreaders.-Performs major and minor repairs to heavy equipment as needed.-Operates, inspects and troubleshoots mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical failures on equipment as required and diagnose defects.-Tests mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers’ specifications.-Dismantles and reassembles heavy equipment using hoists, rigging equipment and hand tools.-Researches parts needed for repairs on equipment by using parts manuals and supply books.-Rebuilds engines, transmissions and their components as necessary.-Makes service calls to various Tropical departments both domestic and international to facilitate equipment repairs as required.-Remains on standby duty during ship loading after hours and on weekends.  -Fills out work orders after every job.  Orders parts required to conduct repair and maintenance and follow-up.  Coordinates with the effected departments equipment repairs and services.-Makes quality fabrications as needed.-Keeps work area clean and organized.-Participates in training seminars and workshops when necessary.-Performs all other duties as required.MINIMUM EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSEDUCATION:    High School Diploma and vocational technological graduate with certificate in equipment maintenance and repair preferred.EXPERIENCE:    Minimum 3 years experience in heavy equipment repair, maintenance and operation.LICENSE:    Valid Local Driver’s License – Non-Commercial Class E. Port Utility Person

JOB SUMMARY    Pressure washes shipping containers and equipment, treats rusted areas and properly applies a protective coating on equipment.   Cleans and maintains the shop area and reefer Pre-Trip Inspection (PTI) areas, including removing trash as needed. Operates yard jockey truck to move containers as needed. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES-Pressure washes shipping containers and equipment as required using machinery provided.-Operates jockey truck as necessary to allow constant flow of containers through the yard.-Checks equipment, ensuring an adequate water supply and all working properly.-Inspects surfaces after washing to ensure it is clear of any food, dirt, and debris.-Notifies manager and lead personnel of unusual and/or excessive damages.-Follows all safety protocols to prevent damage or injury.-Treats rusted areas on equipment and applies aluminum cleaner.-Cleans and washes equipment daily.-Cleans all PTI wash areas once a week.-Cleans and maintains the shop and surrounding areas.-Performs all other assigned duties.MINIMUM EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSEDUCATION:    High School Diploma or equivalentEXPERIENCE:    Six months experience in cleaning and painting.  Pressure washing and jockey truck operation experience preferred.LICENSE:    Valid local driver’s license.
