Cargo Handling Specialist

JOB SUMMARY Inspects and receives cargo to protect the interest of Tropical and its customers.  Verifies that cargo meets Tropical’s minimum requirements for cargo acceptance.  Notifies supervisor / crew leader for problem resolution when cargo does not meet Tropical requirements.  Measures and documents the shipment’s size, type and characteristics along with complete written record of any discrepancies.  Applies proper Tropical labels according to cargo marks and paperwork and enters correct data in the warehouse management system, preparing cargo for putaway.  Operates a forklift as part of the receiving, stripping, or putaway processes.  Puts away cargo in the proper location and documents that transaction properly in the warehouse management system.JOB SCOPENo supervisory or budgetary responsibilitiesPRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESInspects cargo to ensure that cargo meets the Tropical receiving guidelines for acceptance.Receives cargo by :a.  Verifying and documenting the count.b.  Ensuring that cargo matches description on the carrier’s freight billc.  Verifying and documenting cargo condition.d.  Properly noting exceptions (discrepancies) on the delivery agent’s paperwork.e.  Checks for proper hazardous material documents.f.   Signs the delivery receipt, and accepts cargo in accordance with the receiving process.Measures cargo and enters information into the warehouse management system or on hand tally.Properly, accurately, and legibly, records all other required information on tally or in warehouse management system.Prepares cargo for putaway by verifying paperwork, and placing cargo on pallets.  Secures cargo to pallets with shrinkwrap and/or tape.Applies labels to each handling unit, in accordance with company procedures.Exhibits good customer service skills in communicating with customers, truckers, and vendors.Performs and documents pre-shift forklift inspection.Operates a forklift to unload delivery trucks and containers.Strips and transloads cargo as neededTransfers large shipments from delivery truck directly into  containers.Loads containers making sure that cargo is placed properly in containers to ensure maximum stow and damage free transit.Loads flat racks according to flat rack procedures.Ensures proper hazardous material placards are applied when hazardous cargo is loaded.Performs all other assigned duties as requested.MINIMUM EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSEDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalentEXPERIENCE: Six (6) months Tropical warehouse experience.OSHA certified in forklift operation.LICENSE: Valid Florida drivers licenseTRAVEL: None.

Inland Operations Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY Manages, contracts, schedules, monitors, and prioritizes vendor trucking activities according to booking, vessel departure, and service standards.  Manages driver activities and schedule drivers as appropriate to maintain compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and Tropical Shipping policies and rules.  Maintains controls over equipment utilization, customer satisfaction, and adherence to tight time frames.  Updates company systems promptly with pertinent data to ensure accuracy and efficient handling of cargo. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESManages the planning of jobs and vendor selection to obtain the best vendor match for customer requirements for hazmat loads, overweight, and over dimensional.  Updates data into Tritium System & updates data when needed. Addresses changes, voyage changes, Act. Also updates T-link to ensure customers are charged.Assigns driver and equipment and confirms with customers via e-mail and or phone. Delivery time, location and equipment type and size.Manages and maintains over twenty equipment pool locations.Monitors several e-mail accounts to verify vendors are ready for next assignment and or issues at location to be addressed.Creates work orders when needed both in T-link and Trinium for repossession moves.Adds assessorial request in system under correct vendor and provide back authorization number for vendor to be paid.
