Description
This position is responsible for the management of all Heavy Haul activity at the Anchorage Terminal.
Essential Duties
- Operate safely and in compliance with all established HSSE policies and procedures
- Provides customer service to all heavy haul customers
- Quotes heavy haul work for potential customers, assists with quoting HH projects in Alaska and Lower 48
- Schedules and plans work for HH drivers; review routing and all relevant details with drivers before dispatching
- Ensures all necessary permits, road/bridge fees, and documents are prepared for drivers
- Maximizes the efficiency of loads, equipment, and drivers when route planning
- Creates BOLs in TruckMate for HH freight moves
- Rates bills and date reviews before sending to billing
- Provides advice, guidance, and direction to staff for their professional development
- Communicates and coordinates with Operations
- Oversees and manages the professional development and productivity of all staff members to ensure proper goals, training, professional development and project requirements are met
- Actively involved with recruiting, retention, mentoring, and training of Heavy Haul drivers
- Take delivery of new equipment, inspect, and approve for operational readiness
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Some college, AA, or undergraduate degree preferred
- 5-7 years of heavy haul driving required
- 5 years previous supervisory or managerial experience
- Class A CDL with hazmat and tanker endorsement preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of finance, credit, pricing, budgeting, and cost control and collection principles and practices
- Working knowledge of MS Office Suite applications including Word, Outlook and Excel
- Working knowledge of multi-modal Heavy Haul routing including line service, barge and rail
- Working knowledge of computers and software, TruckMate knowledge preferred
- Must understand geographical markets
- Knowledgeable of all state and federal DOT regulations
- Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite including Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
- Excellent verbal, written and listening communication skills

Working Environment:
This job operates in both a professional office environment and outdoors. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and other office related devices. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may work in outside weather conditions (extreme cold and inclement conditions – snow, ice, rain, wind, etc.). The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vehicle vibration.
