TOTE Maritime Puerto Rico, a leader in safe and reliable service to Puerto Rico, is seeking a Sr. Manager, Cargo Services to join the team at our Jacksonville, FL office.

 

In this position you will:

be responsible for managing all functions of the hazardous, regulatory, and cargo support teams. This includes maintenance of vessel schedules and maximizing vessel utilization through the prioritization and advancement of cargo. Develop procedures to ensure accurate reconciliation of vessels. Ensuring adherence governing the movement of cargo by regulatory agencies is strictly followed. Facilitate compliance with all hazardous requirements as established by the 49CFR. Develop people, processes, and ideas through continuous improvement.  Be instrumental in developing staff by accurate, honest feedback, and ethical behavior.

 

 

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Ensure compliance with Puerto Rico Tax office, US Customs, USDA, and US Census.
  • Research and ensure that any regulatory issues are resolved timely and accurately.
  • Identify areas of potential regulatory issues and ensure corrective actions are developed.
  • Ensure direct reports follow established work instructions, SOPs, and accepted processes.
  • Encourage continuous improvement initiatives measurement and analysis.
  • Formulate cargo projections through the use of historical data and track and trace results.
  • Prepare and communicate priority cargo list when expected cargo volume exceeds space.
  • Establish open communication with the commercial team and act as liaison with operations to ensure customer expectations are met.
  • Ensure sailing schedule is maintained in back-office system.
  • Maintain necessary data for KPI’s.
  • Establish and maintain open communication with all terminal locations.
  • Ensure vessel reconciliations are performed accurately and within an established time frame.
  • Stay up to date with international regulations, including IMDG Code, 49CFR, and applicable local regulations, to ensure compliance with all hazardous materials transportation requirements.
  • Manage the timely receipt of hazardous documentation from customers
  • Ensure timely delivery of the dangerous cargo manifest to the Terminal Ops Team. 
  • Act as the primary point of contact for managing incidents involving hazardous materials during transportation, coordinating appropriate response actions, and ensuring compliance with reporting requirements.
  • Develop and implement robust safety protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for handling hazardous materials throughout the shipping process, including loading, unloading, storage, and emergency response procedures.
  • Conduct regular training sessions for employees involved in handling hazardous materials, ensuring they have the knowledge and skills to comply with safety regulations and respond to emergency situations.

 

 

The ideal candidate will have:

Education:

  • High school diploma required. 
  • Associates or Bachelors degree preferred. 

 

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Ten or more years of transportation experience preferred.
  • Experience with State and Federal transportation governing agencies such as U.S. Customs, USDA, PR Tax Office, USCG, etc.
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a timely manner.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work extended and irregular hours.
  • Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel skills. 
  • Ability to lead people.
  • Commitment to process improvement.
