Purpose of Job:  

The Process Optimization Specialist will play a key role in supporting TOTE’s mission to deliver safe, reliable, and efficient maritime and logistics services by driving continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives. 

This position is part of a 24-month Rotational Developmental Program, designed to provide the participant with a broad understanding of TOTE’s operations through hands-on experience in multiple functional areas including terminal operations, fleet engineering, safety and compliance, logistics, and continuous improvement. 

Main Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Participate in a structured 36-month rotational program across key operational departments to gain end-to-end business knowledge. 
  • Lead and support continuous improvement projects focused on safety, efficiency, and service reliability. 
  • Apply Lean, Six Sigma, and other process improvement methodologies to optimize performance. 
  • Collect and analyze operational data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement. 
  • Support the development and implementation of standardized procedures and best practices across locations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement innovative and sustainable solutions. 
  • Participate in safety audits, compliance initiatives, and operational reviews. 
  • Prepare and present project outcomes and recommendations to leadership teams. 

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Assists the Company in any necessary duties to achieve Company goals. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.  
  • Adherence to the Integrated Management System that covers Quality, Environmental, and Safety ISO (International Organization for Standardization) certifications

Authority Selections: 

Limited supervision. Work is performed to a large extent on own responsibility after assignment, with some choice of method. Occasionally develops own method. 

Judgment Decisions

Mistakes and errors in judgment are significant, difficult to detect, involving major expenditures, may involve the preparation or presentation of data on which management bases important decisions. 

Disclosure of Information Selections: 

This position involves regular work with some information of major importance, which if disclosed may be detrimental to the company’s interests. 

Financial Responsibility Selections: 

Purchases supplies necessary for performance of personal or immediate work group’s job functions. 

Skills:  

  • Ability to read and comprehend business correspondence, technical procedures, government regulations. 
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, customers and trucking companies 
  • Ability to solve practical problems.  
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in writing, oral, diagrams or schedule form. 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Maritime Operations,  Business, or a related field. 
  • 0–3 years of relevant experience in operations, process improvement, or project management (internships included). 
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills. 
  • Proficiency in Excel, Power BI, or other data analysis tools. 
  • Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies (Green Belt certification preferred). 
  • Demonstrated leadership potential and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.  
  • Flexibility to travel and complete short-term rotations in different TOTE locations.  

Physical Requirements of the Position –  

Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.  

Light work: Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.  

Visual Requirements of the Position:

Visual requirement equal to that for clerical administrative whose work deals largely with preparing and analyzing data and figures, accounting, transcription, computer terminal, extensive reading, etc.
