Marine Crewing Specialist

JOB SUMMARY Responsible for vessel crewing operations across all Tropical ships which includes all functions of crew management specific to: managing labor contracts, crew payroll, and other Human Resources related aspects. Manages crew labor contracts by reviewing all internationally required marine licenses, certificates, and training.  Creates, calculates, and processes payroll for crew in conjunction with the Tropical payroll department.  Represents Tropical Shipping and works directly with third party entities such as the vessel’s flag state, the vessel classification society, and manning agencies.JOB SCOPENo supervisory responsibilities.  Assists in the preparation of departmental budget.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESProcesses payroll for crew, by reviewing labor contracts and time sheets for information into AMOS and ShipMoney software. Maintains and inputs crew personnel information, including transfers, new hires, rehires, leave of absences and terminations.Processes marine personnel invoices and makes required distributions.Arranges, maintains, and coordinates documentation and arranges crew medical treatment as directed.Processes timely crew leave letters along with all other required correspondence, passports, seaman’s book, and VISA’s.Handles clerical and administrative functions in the marine personnel area.Processes and prepares monthly vessel fleet report.Performs all other assigned duties.MINIMUM EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSEDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent. Marine Fabricator Welder

JOB SUMMARY Manufactures, maintains, repairs and modifies vessel equipment.  Does repair welding and fabrication on aluminum, steel, stainless steel, cast iron, ferrous and non-ferrous metals.  Also orders metals and materials for related jobs.EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalentEXPERIENCE: Seven years in welding field with experience in ships repairs, including MIG, TIG, ARC, Gas and PlasmaLICENSE: Valid Local Driver’s License and Valid PassportTRAVEL: 10% Travel to various Tropical locations.

Marine Engineering Director

JOB SUMMARYOverseas and manages the repair and maintenance programs covering Tropical’s fleet of vessels.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES-Manages voyage repairs.-Manages preventative maintenance program covering Tropical’s vessels.-Manages contracted service for designated equipment or repair.-Fills in for General Manager during his or her absence.-Coordinates with General Manager to schedule periodic dry-docking.-Attends and supervises all ships’ dry-docking.-Cooperates with Crew Agent in the movement and placement of vessel officers and personnel.-Supervises on-going survey program.-Responds to emergency calls after normal working hours as necessary.-Prepares and submits annual repair and maintenance budget and standards.-Prepares and submits five-year long term budget with annual revision update.-Prepares expense budgets for engineering and marine requirements.-Develop and lays out bid specs for periodic dry-docking of vessel.-Performs all other duties as assigned. EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Marine EngineeringEXPERIENCE: Seven to ten years engineering/shipyard.  One year as Chief Engineerof Motor Vessels, sailing at sea.LICENSE: Chief Engineer’s License of Motor Vessels.  Valid Local Driver’s License and Valid Passport.TRAVEL: Various Tropical locations.

Marine Engineering Manager

JOB SUMMARYProvides supervision and direction of the repair and maintenance programs covering Tropical’s fleet of vessels. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES-Manages the preventive maintenance program for their assigned vessels.-Provides on-site supervision for maintenance and repair work done on their assigned vessels.-Assists with the design and installation of vessel modifications.-Manages the voyage repair work performed by Welders, Electricians, and Carpenters-Troubleshoots technical problems on vessels. -Prepares repair specifications and contracts for outside services needed to maintain the vessels.-Prepares dry docking specifications, negotiates contracts, and provides on-site supervision at dry dockings.-Prepares and manages the Annual and Long Term budgets for their assigned vessels-Attends the vessels whenever required for emergencies, technical problems, repairs and inspections.-Manages Classification Society surveys and attends their inspections of the vessels.-Works with the Vessel Personnel and Agency Supervisor to screen vessel crew applicants.-Evaluates Engineer Officer performance and provides recommendations regarding their suitability for rehire.-Performs the Marine Engineering duties during their absence. -Performs all other duties as assigned.EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Engineering.EXPERIENCE: Five years experience in engineering or shipyard and one year experience as Chief Engineer of Motor Vessels, sailing at sea.LICENSE: Valid Local Driver’s License and Valid Passport.  Valid Chief Engineer’s License of Motor Vessels.TRAVEL: 20% travel various Tropical locations.

JOB SUMMARY Performs repair and maintenance of vessel machinery.EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalentEXPERIENCE: Four years working with diesel engines, pneumatics, hydraulics, A/C and refrigeration system, and some knowledge of pipe fitting.  Certified in fork-lift and man-lift operation.  Attends A/C and Refrigeration classes within 1 1/2 years if not previously completed.LICENSE: Valid Local Driver’s License.  Valid PassportTRAVEL: 15% Travel to other Tropical locations
