We are hiring a Human Resources Business Partner – Fleet (HRBP- Fleet) to support our managed fleet operations. This role provides HR guidance, analyzes workforce data, resolves employee issues, and aligns HR practices with business goals. Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the HRBP-Fleet works closely with vessel and shoreside leadership to enhance mariner experience.
This position also leads the Marine Personnel Team, ensuring vessel crewing complies with company policies, labor agreements, and regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Strategic HR Leadership: Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership, aligning HR initiatives with business goals to enhance workforce engagement, operational efficiency, and business growth.
- Talent Strategy & Development: Lead recruitment, development, and retention efforts, including succession planning, performance management, and professional development, with a focus on the maritime sector.
- Employee Relations & Compliance: Address workplace concerns, conduct investigations, and ensure compliance with labor laws, collective bargaining agreements, and regulations.
- Workforce Engagement & Culture: Drive employee engagement, training, and development initiatives to foster a positive, welcoming, and growth-oriented workplace. Routinely visit operational vessels and sites to engage with union and non-union employees, fostering a respectful and collaborative work environment.
- Operational HR Oversight: Manage onboarding, crewing, disability claims, and HR policy implementation while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, rand associated workplace programs.
- Data-Driven Decision Making: Analyze workforce trends and HR metrics to inform policies, improve processes, and support long-term organizational objectives.
- Travel on average 25% to attend industry/recruitment events and visit employee places of work to include operational units to interact with union and non-union employees and build a positive/respectful work environment/culture.
- Perform other duties as assigned that align with the overall objectives of the role and support departmental and organizational needs.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of HR experience, preferably in a maritime or unionized setting.
- Strong advisory and influencing skills across all levels.
- Excellent communication skills, including presentation and facilitation.
- Proactive problem solver with a focus on organizational agility.
- Analytical mindset to interpret workforce data and inform HR strategies.
- Detail-oriented and organized, able to manage multiple priorities.
- High integrity in handling sensitive information.
- Team player who can work independently in a dynamic environment.
- Solid knowledge of employment laws at local, state, and federal levels.
- Understanding of organizational structures, job functions, and compensation.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and HRIS systems.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or related field; or equivalent combination of post high school education and equivalent work experience.
- Advanced degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Business, Organizational Development preferred.
- HR certification preferred.

The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands to operate computer controls, calculators, and telephones. The employee is required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms, and routinely visit and perform duties at a marine terminal or aboard a commercial vessel.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision to review reports and the ability to adjust focus to computer terminal.
