Description

June 25 – Early November: In Red Dog, Alaska as Night Dispatch.  Responsible for receiving, recording, and disseminating information while assisting the Red Dog Operations office, shore-side. The Night Dispatcher works one (1) 12-hour shift per day and reports to the Project Manager. 

Essential Functions:

  • Operate the VHF radio and communicate with attending Foss Tugs, Lighterage Barges, Teck ship loader personnel, and vessels to be loaded.
  • Maintain proper log listing chronology of events and times, cargo quantities, and weather conditions.
  • Will call out lighterage barge load and discharge crews before their respective operations are forecast to begin.
  • Survey and log weather observations every four hours or more often if conditions dictate.
  • Accurately relay all pertinent information to the Project Manager or Port Captain of conditions requiring firsthand attention, regardless or the hour or circumstance on a timely basis.
  • Participation in the Lead Compliance Program with respect to monthly blood testing, fitting and proper utilization of respiratory protection (if work entails exposure to ore concentrate).
  • Other duties assigned as specified by the Project Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Adherence to work rules and safety issues as given in the Foss Employee Handbook.
  • Compliance with Foss Drug and Alcohol Policy, and company Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Strick adherence to Foss office policies and instruction from the Project Manager.

Administrative Skills

  • Requires typing and keyboard skills. Familiarity with office equipment, filing of reports and forms.

Environment and Working Conditions

  • Candidate must be able to work for extended periods of time. Regular and predictable attendance is a requirement.

Physical/Mental Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit/stand; use hands or fingers; handle or feel; talk and hear.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to move between buildings, ascend/descend stairs and go outdoors in all kinds of weather.
  •  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to fly in a fixed-wing aircraft

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school education or equivalent is required.
  • Must possess or be willing to get a valid TWIC card.
  • Computer Literate, ability to operate Excel, Word software.
  • Proficient typing and keyboard skills
  • Familiarity with office equipment: Phone systems, Computer, Copier, Fax machine.
  • Must possess strong written and oral communicative skills.
