Description

This position is responsible for performing professional accounting duties associated with the organizations operations; analyzes and reconciles financial transactions; maintains the accuracy of the organization’s financial records, ledgers and related financial systems; prepares monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports; and provides assistance and professional support to management staff.  Position is a grade 16.

Essential Job Responsibilities AND Results

  • Participate in a full range of accounting duties; assume responsibility for the review and maintenance of accounting records; prepare and enter journal entries; coordinate/participate in the preparation, production and compilation of financial statements and reports; provide information for the budget process; respond to questions and requests for information.
  • Coordinate and participate in the performance of professional accounting duties involved in the analysis, preparation and maintenance of financial records and reports.
  • Perform technical accounting work; analyze and solve complex problems using professional, up to date concepts.
  • Perform a variety of duties to ensure financial system integrity and participate in financial system development as needed.  
  • Participate in the development, documentation, review and improvement of the organization’s financial procedures and internal controls; ensure operational compliance by staff that ensures transactions are processed according to procedures and standards.
  • Provide accounting and financial system guidance to management and staff.
  • Provide budget assistance to management and staff.
  • Participate in the yearend audit process by providing schedules, narratives and ad-hoc reports. 
  • Creation, analysis, and publication of financial reports, including standard financial statements and on-demand reporting.
  • Creation of annual federal tax package for parent company.
  • State and local tax issues including completion of returns and management of audits.

 

KNOWLEDGE, Skills And Abilities

  • In-depth knowledge of financial analysis and financial accounting systems.
  • Excellent accounting skills including knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Financial Accounting Standards and Generally Accepted Auditing Standards.
  • Good knowledge of automated report writing and database management.
  • Experience with Lawson and Hyperion/Essbase systems desirable
  • Excellent analytical abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be a team player. 
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task. 
  • Computer literate, with the ability to utilize standard software applications and be proficient in Windows and MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel).

  • Independently perform difficult professional accounting functions.
  • Use advanced level professional and/or technical concepts to perform assigned duties and solve complex problems.
  • Analyze financial data and concepts.
  • Evaluate financial systems and practices and make appropriate recommendations for improvement.
  • Use database and report writing technology tools to create queries and reports.
  • Develop and implement financial procedures and controls.
  • Prepare clear, concise and comprehensive financial statements, reports and written materials.
  • Manage multiple tasks, set objectives/goals and re-prioritize as needed. 
  • Work cooperatively with other divisions and management, i.e., create effective partnerships throughout organization.
  • Work effectively under pressure, meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities.
  • Respond tactfully, clearly, concisely and appropriately to staff and management throughout the organization.

Positions at this level have moderate decision-making authority.  Action taken by this position can impact highly specialized and/or technical areas and require the application and interpretation of data, facts, situations, procedures and policy.

COMMUNICATION SKILL

Positions at this level have a high level of contact with management and staff throughout the organization.  This position is expected to solve problems within policy guidelines while communicating with management within the division.

The salary range is $52, 900-92,600 with an anticipated salary of $78,000-85,000.  Pay will be based on several factors including the candidate’s education, work experience, work location and specific job duties.
