Pay Range: The full pay range for this job is $86,148.00 to $129,222.00 + up to a 5% bonus opportunity per year. The actual offer will consider multiple factors including but not limited to education, experience, internal equity, and other job-relevant considerations.

Job Summary:

The Senior Business Intelligence Analyst is responsible for driving NorthStar Energy’s new business intelligence and data visualization function for owned operating companies and future acquisitions/new markets. This role will manage diverse projects from ideation to implementation spanning commodity markets, telematics, fleet data, and other operating metrics. The Senior Business Intelligence Analyst collaborates with multi-functional teams to ultimately support NorthStar Energy’s overall operating, safety, and financial objectives. This position works with the Director of Analytics.

Roles and Responsibilities

Be Our Technical Data and Reporting Expert:

  • Develop a deep understanding of various domains, software, servers, and departments within the company.
  • Develop, refine, and solve data sources and reporting requirements by collaborating with multi-functional teams.
  • Build complex queries and data models to expand operational metrics and meet reporting needs with minimal errors.
  • Serve as a cross-departmental resource to support and develop analytics/KPIs to drive business decisions.
  • Work closely with our Information Technology (IT) Data team to align reporting requirements with data warehousing architecture and data validation.

Build Business and Operational Insight:

  • Work closely with operations management to design, develop, and maintain performance metrics, reports, and dashboards that are used across the organization to understand and improve business performance. Recommend cadence and format for reporting.
  • Develop a deep understanding of current and future software to ensure management leverages the full benefits of related data.
  • Partner with IT to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and scalability of data presented in reports and dashboards.

Help Solve Business Problems:

  • Apply strong analytical skills to identify business problems and propose effective solutions by working across our businesses to complete data requirements.
  • Provide insights and recommendations based on data analysis to drive business decisions.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Economics, or related field; Master’s Degree or Advanced Education preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in business intelligence, data analysis, and data visualization, including direct experience.
  • Proficiency in automated data visualization tools such as Power BI, Power Query, or a similar platform.
  • Self-motivation and initiative to develop new data sources and a deep understanding of commodity markets and NorthStar’s operations.
  • Experience working with operational teams to deliver new KPIs and dashboards.
  • Experience with data warehousing concepts and methodologies.
  • Advanced SQL skills for querying and manipulating large datasets are required.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Azure Data Services including serverless SQL, Synapse, ETL Data Pipeline, APIs preferred.
  • Familiarity with mathematic and statistical concepts.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Python or R is a plus.
