Summary: 

As a Junior Staff Accountant, you will be responsible for period-closing journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, maintaining fixed assets, and supporting various accounting projects. This entry-level, hourly position focuses on ensuring accurate financial records and reports while adhering to established procedures.       

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare period-closing journal entries to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations, identifying and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Maintain and update the fixed asset register, including tracking acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation schedules.
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
  • Support the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as needed.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements and reports for management review.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure the integrity of financial data and support operational needs.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance accuracy through more efficient and effective processes as part of our culture of continuous improvement.
  • Ensures proper adherence of internal controls to maintain the integrity over financial reporting.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate for this position should have the following skills, professional experience, and educational background:

  • Effective communicator.
  • Works well with people at all levels.
  • Infor Finance and Supply Management, Concur, and Workday experience preferred.
  • Problem solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, v-lookup, etc.) and Outlook applications.
  • Strong team player with the ability to manage tasks efficiently and meet deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented with ability to adapt to changing requirements. 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or listen.  The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands to operate computer controls, calculators, and telephone.  The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms, and perform duties at a marine terminal or aboard a commercial vessel. 

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision to review reports and the ability to adjust focus to computer terminal.
