JOB SUMMARY Responsible for performing work associated with stevedoring, including checking and recording containers and equipment being loaded or discharged from vessels, and or cargo movement through operation of jockey truck and forklift.  Verifies receipt of equipment between receive locations and ensures all equipment moves are logged. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESTransports equipment between receive locations, SPA, staging areas and maintenance shops to ensure maximum equipment availability.   Ensures all customer requirements are met by completing any and all tasks designated by the specific receive location.  These can include, yet are not limit to:  special setups, meeting all required “late-to-port” cutoffs, delivery of reefer cargo; and any plug-ins, and loading or unloading cargo on vessels.Communicates, via radio with appropriate personnel to provide stowage information and receive verification of equipment location and status.  Logs all equipment moves to provide a complete and accurate record.  Records actual placement position of cargo on board vessels during loading into the N-4 system.Check container doors, seals and pins prior to transport to ensure freight is moved damage-free.  Places appropriate seal on inbound and outbound containers not having seals and records same.  Completes seal discrepancy reports.Checks all empty containers for trash or damage and records information. Identifies and advises equipment operator of interline/foreign empty containers.Performs shipside support with handling lines and setting gangways.  Retrieves, loads, and braces automobiles into containers for export shipment as necessary.  Assists in the rigging of special lifts, slings and out-of-gauge lifts when required.Drives and operates equipment, machinery, and automobiles into hold or deck of ships.Maintains certification and proficiency in jockey truck and forklift.Works in conjunction with the Signal Person and Lead Stevedore to ensure accurate placement of containers and cargo on vessels.Performs all required daily, weekly or monthly safety and maintenance checks on assigned equipment.  This includes checking tire pressure, locking mechanisms as well as ensuring that the vehicle is clean and receives regular preventative maintenance.  Also includes daily preventative maintenance on cranes and weekly cable inspections.Properly uses RPMs while pulling loads during operational hours.Reports to Jockey Supervisor for new assignments when all jobs are cleared from N- 4 mobile screen.Keeps refrigerated container line full at all times.Keeps chassis cleared from Interchange lines and sea wall at all times.Inspects and cleans shipside/crane work area to ensure safe environment.Performs all other duties as assigned.MINIMUM EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSEDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalentEXPERIENCE: One year trucking, stevedoring or shipping operations experience.LICENSE: Valid State of Florida Commercial Driver’s License, Class A or ability to obtain within 30 days.  Certified to operate a forklift.TRAVEL: N/APHYSICAL: Operations – Manual dexterity to perform repetitive motion tasks on computer or handheld.  Ability to frequently twist, bend, reach, squat, kneel, climb on equipment, push/pull 50 pounds, crawl, lift and carry at least 80 pounds and push/pull 200 pounds on a daily basis.  Able to withstand constant exposure to extreme weather conditions.  Must pass DOT physicalLANGUAGE: English

Cargo Handling Specialist

JOB SUMMARY Inspects and receives cargo to protect the interest of Tropical and its customers.  Verifies that cargo meets Tropical’s minimum requirements for cargo acceptance.  Notifies supervisor / crew leader for problem resolution when cargo does not meet Tropical requirements.  Measures and documents the shipment’s size, type and characteristics along with complete written record of any discrepancies.  Applies proper Tropical labels according to cargo marks and paperwork and enters correct data in the warehouse management system, preparing cargo for putaway.  Operates a forklift as part of the receiving, stripping, or putaway processes.  Puts away cargo in the proper location and documents that transaction properly in the warehouse management system.JOB SCOPENo supervisory or budgetary responsibilitiesPRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESInspects cargo to ensure that cargo meets the Tropical receiving guidelines for acceptance.Receives cargo by :a.  Verifying and documenting the count.b.  Ensuring that cargo matches description on the carrier’s freight billc.  Verifying and documenting cargo condition.d.  Properly noting exceptions (discrepancies) on the delivery agent’s paperwork.e.  Checks for proper hazardous material documents.f.   Signs the delivery receipt, and accepts cargo in accordance with the receiving process.Measures cargo and enters information into the warehouse management system or on hand tally.Properly, accurately, and legibly, records all other required information on tally or in warehouse management system.Prepares cargo for putaway by verifying paperwork, and placing cargo on pallets.  Secures cargo to pallets with shrinkwrap and/or tape.Applies labels to each handling unit, in accordance with company procedures.Exhibits good customer service skills in communicating with customers, truckers, and vendors.Performs and documents pre-shift forklift inspection.Operates a forklift to unload delivery trucks and containers.Strips and transloads cargo as neededTransfers large shipments from delivery truck directly into  containers.Loads containers making sure that cargo is placed properly in containers to ensure maximum stow and damage free transit.Loads flat racks according to flat rack procedures.Ensures proper hazardous material placards are applied when hazardous cargo is loaded.Performs all other assigned duties as requested.
