JOB SUMMARY Supervises the efficient and effective repair of freight handling equipment utilizing appropriate vendors. Maintains communications with other departments to determine repair priorities based on freight demand, and coordinates equipment movements and damages. Surveys damage, and completes monetary estimates and invoices.EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent.EXPERIENCE: 5 years shipping and manufactured reefer equipment maintenance & container maintenance or experience in a related field required with experience in welding, fabricating, electrical, refrigeration and mechanics. One to three years of supervisory and leadership experience required.LICENSE: Valid Canadian Driver’s LicenseTRAVEL: N/APHYSICAL: Semi-office environment. Ability to perform repetitive motion tasks on computer. Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time up to 8 hours per day. Mobility required to oversee repair activities and to perform inspection duties. Ability to frequently twist, bend, reach, squat, kneel and climb heights up to 15 feet; occasionally must lift and carry up to 100 lbs. Able to withstand occasional exposure to extreme weather conditions.

Responsible for assisting with the budgetary and financial functions of the department. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESManages Saint John stevedoring terminal operations or Labor ordering, vessel turnaround, performance and planning. Stevedore invoicing approval or reconciliation.Communicates with other departments to resolve problems or concerns related to equipment damages and maintenance.Ensures proper procedures are followed in Maintenance and Refrigeration and operations with reefer containers.Supervises the development of personnel through performance reviews or coaching, training classes work groups and on the job training.Monitors costing budget and ensure third party billing are performed; and manages expectations and balancing costs and service for maintenance and refrigeration and vessel operations.Researches ways to improve staff productivity and maximize longevity. Determines priorities and communicates to senior management. Compiles reports and ensures departmental labor utilization, productivity or materials management and equipment productivity.Ensures efficient equipment inventory levels available to meet requirements for repairs. Oversees inventory control of parts and materials and procurement management.Completes information of possible reefer claims and adheres to procedures to eliminate claims.Implements new procedures for company and departmental personnel regarding reefer department and equipment.Performs all other assigned duties.
JOB SUMMARY Performs preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs on support and heavy freight moving equipment systems: mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical. JOB SCOPENo supervisory or budgetary responsibilities.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESPerforms preventative maintenance on all heavy equipment including but not limited to: mobile harbor cranes, straddle carriers, reach stackers, rotators and spreaders. Performs major and minor repairs to heavy equipment as needed. Operates, inspects and troubleshoots mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical failures on equipment as required and diagnose defects. Tests mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers’ specifications. Dismantles and reassembles heavy equipment using hoists, rigging equipment and hand tools. Researches parts needed for repairs on equipment by using parts manuals and supply books. Rebuilds engines, transmissions and their components as necessary. Makes service calls to various Tropical departments both domestic and international to facilitate equipment repairs as required. Remains on standby duty during ship loading after hours and on weekends. Fills out work orders after every job. Orders parts required to conduct repair and maintenance and follow-up. Coordinates with the effected departments equipment repairs and services. Makes quality fabrications as needed. Keeps work area clean and organized. Participates in training seminars and workshops when necessary. Performs all other duties as required.MINIMUM EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSEDUCATION: High School Diploma and vocational technological graduate with certificate in equipment maintenance and repair preferred.EXPERIENCE: Minimum 3 years experience in heavy equipment repair, maintenance and operation.LICENSE: Valid Local Driver’s License – Non-Commercial Class E. Ability to obtain a U.S. Passport. Certificates in mechanical, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems preferred.TRAVEL: 10% Travel to both domestic and international Tropical locations.PHYSICAL: Operations – Manual dexterity to perform repetitive motion tasks on/with computer, handheld devices or tools. Ability to frequently twist, bend, reach, squat, kneel, climb on equipment, push/pull 50 pounds, crawl, lift and carry at least 80 pounds on a daily basis. Able to withstand exposure to extreme weather conditions. Ability to travel in various modes of transportation (e.g. automobile, airplane, train etc.) Occasionally exposed to outside elements during the daily workday and during traveling.
