Cargo Handling Specialist

JOB SUMMARY Inspects and receives cargo to protect the interest of Tropical and its customers.  Verifies that cargo meets Tropical’s minimum requirements for cargo acceptance.  Notifies supervisor / crew leader for problem resolution when cargo does not meet Tropical requirements.  Measures and documents the shipment’s size, type and characteristics along with complete written record of any discrepancies.  Applies proper Tropical labels according to cargo marks and paperwork and enters correct data in the warehouse management system, preparing cargo for putaway.  Operates a forklift as part of the receiving, stripping, or putaway processes.  Puts away cargo in the proper location and documents that transaction properly in the warehouse management system.JOB SCOPENo supervisory or budgetary responsibilitiesPRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESInspects cargo to ensure that cargo meets the Tropical receiving guidelines for acceptance.Receives cargo by :a.  Verifying and documenting the count.b.  Ensuring that cargo matches description on the carrier’s freight billc.  Verifying and documenting cargo condition.d.  Properly noting exceptions (discrepancies) on the delivery agent’s paperwork.e.  Checks for proper hazardous material documents.f.   Signs the delivery receipt, and accepts cargo in accordance with the receiving process.Measures cargo and enters information into the warehouse management system or on hand tally.Properly, accurately, and legibly, records all other required information on tally or in warehouse management system.Prepares cargo for putaway by verifying paperwork, and placing cargo on pallets.  Secures cargo to pallets with shrinkwrap and/or tape.Applies labels to each handling unit, in accordance with company procedures.Exhibits good customer service skills in communicating with customers, truckers, and vendors.Performs and documents pre-shift forklift inspection.Operates a forklift to unload delivery trucks and containers.Strips and transloads cargo as neededTransfers large shipments from delivery truck directly into  containers.Loads containers making sure that cargo is placed properly in containers to ensure maximum stow and damage free transit.Loads flat racks according to flat rack procedures.Ensures proper hazardous material placards are applied when hazardous cargo is loaded.Performs all other assigned duties as requested. Job DescriptionSupervises and audits activities of all Customer Service Representatives to obtain maximum productivity for assigned Tropical duties and responsibilities.Procures information for/from CCAs and Kestrel and provides support on claims and other requirements by internal or external customers.Job ScopeSupervisory Responsibilities Budgetary ResponsibilitiesSupervises all Customer Service RepresentativesPrincipal Duties and ResponsibilitiesSupervises Global/ Local Documentation Department and provides support to staff.Procures approval/refusal for Hazardous Cargo, whenever necessary.Communicates constantly with CCAs and Kestrel about forecasts, overbook situations and any other task related to Traffic and Documentation.Audits and maintains all current receivable and payable accounts for  global carriers and Kestrel (Global and US).Researches all disputes, resolves billing issues, and prepares necessary documentation, coordinating with Tropical locations and departments and/or Carriers to ensure all issues are resolved. Follows up with all carriers/Kestrel to collect past due items. Prepares and processes checks, write-offs, write-ins and reapplication of cash.Reviews and coordinates new credit applications for new or increased credit lines of global carriers and/or Kestrel.Manages the Advance Account. Monthly account reviews and reconciliation with Kestrel. Works closely with Accounting, making sure policies and procedures are followed and special Global requirements are in place.Makes sure all carriers/Kestrel receive our invoices in due time.Works with carriers/Kestrel to continue enhancing the receivable/payable processes with each of them.Provides guidance to Tropical locations regarding receivable/payable procedures in general as well as specific requirements for each carrier/Kestrel.Monitors interline equipment moving with Tropical to assist on the expediate empty return.Works with Tropical locations for prompt resolution of billing errors/FCN preparation and approval. Reviews and coordinates with all Tropical locations for resolution on pending “issued” documents to ensure revenue is recorded properly and on time, following up for resolution on any global items shown on the Accounting Flash report.Supervises DIRECT shipment activities.Creates Non-Job invoices in T-Link for advance charges, destination charges, and others to be collected from consignees for DIRECT shipments as well as creates Non-Job invoices in T-Link to bill carriers/Kestrel for the interline commission on this DIRECT shipments.Prepares and provides the require documents for DIRECTS and coordinates with Tropical locations and carrier/Kestrel for the arrival and releasing of the DIRECT shipment, making sure all notifications and documents are ready to avoid any delay at destination.Produces monthly report for DIRECT shipments.Reviews and audits Global Northbound and Global interisland documents produced by Tropical locations to make sure all charges are correctly billed, and all required documents are properly produced before sailing.Coordinates the correction of any Global Northbound and Global Interisland documents produced by the Tropical locations.Reviews and audits Local Northbound and Southbound interisland documents produced by Dominican Republic office (Puerto Plata and Caucedo)

Port Checker

JOB SUMMARY Inspect and accurately update status in N-4 for all equipment entering and exiting the port.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES-Provides Port Equipment Operator Lead with required guidance for safe and proper crane operation using approved hand signals. -Ensures deck gear is set up according to stowage plan.  Coordinates with Port Equipment Operator Lead, and vessel personnel to ensure proper placement of containers on ship. -Inspects and sweeps containers as needed for damage and/or cleanliness and directs Port Equipment Operator II as to where they are to be staged via radio communications.-Assists in rigging of special lifts both ashore and aboard vessels.-Operates 10 ton fork-lift to move containers and other cargo.–Maintains certification and proficiency in fork-lift operation.Performs shipside support for handling lines and setting gangways.-Assists Port Equipment Operator Lead with routine maintenance inspection.  Also assists Heavy Equipment Mechanics, Port Equipment Operator and Port Equipment Operator Lead with crane maintenance.-Inspects and cleans shipside work area to ensure safe environment and properly maintained rigging gear.-Monitors work areas on-board vessels to ensure personal safety.-Retrieves, loads and braces vehicles into containers for export shipment.-Drives and operates equipment, machinery and automobiles into hold or deck of ships.-Prepares support equipment check sheets daily and submits weekly. -Cross trains on crane team application on handheld computers.-Empties garbage cans in port seawalls and assists during spill clean ups.-Performs all other duties as assigned.EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalentEXPERIENCE: Six months general clerical experienceLICENSE: Valid State of Florida Driver’s LicenseTRAVEL: N/A
